Everyday driveways
A tarmac driveway gives a clean, practical surface that copes well with daily traffic, turning vehicles and family life. It can be finished with neat kerbs and channels to manage surface water.
Tarmac (often called asphalt) is a hard-wearing, practical surface for driveways, forecourts and parking areas. Premier Paving Services install tarmac driveways across Sussex, Surrey and Kent, with proper groundwork, neat edges and sensible drainage so the surface performs well for years to come.
Regularly working in East Grinstead, Crawley, Horley, Redhill, Reigate, Tunbridge Wells, Sevenoaks, Tonbridge and surrounding areas.
Tarmac is ideal for family driveways, shared access roads and small commercial forecourts where a strong, tidy surface is needed. It can also be edged with block paving for a smarter finish.

For shared access routes and short private roads, tarmac offers good value and durability. We can design levels and falls to handle water sensibly and avoid puddles.
We also lay tarmac for small commercial forecourts and parking bays, often using block paving to mark out spaces or create contrasting borders.
A tarmac driveway is only as strong as the base underneath. We follow a clear process so the surface keeps its shape, supports vehicles and drains correctly.
We start by excavating the existing surface to the correct depth and disposing of spoil responsibly. A compacted Type 1 or Type 3 sub-base is then installed to support the tarmac.
On larger or more heavily used areas we may lay a separate base course of tarmac beneath the final wearing course for added strength.
Once the base is ready, a hot tarmac wearing course is laid and compacted to the finished falls and levels. Edgings, channels and any block paved borders are installed to keep everything tidy.
We always consider drainage, making sure water runs to suitable points rather than towards buildings or onto the road.
Tarmac is a good all-round choice, but other surfaces may suit certain homes or longer rural drives better. We can talk through the options and pricing on site.
If you want a smoother, more decorative finish, a resin bound driveway might be the right choice. Tarmac is often used as the base for resin.
Block paving offers patterns, colours and decorative borders. It can be used alongside tarmac to create smart edges or parking bays.
For longer driveways and rural access roads, tar & chip surfacing can give a country lane look while remaining strong under vehicles.
A few common questions from homeowners in Sussex, Surrey and Kent considering a tarmac driveway.
For an average driveway, groundwork and tarmac laying typically take around 3–5 days, depending on the size, access and weather conditions. Larger or more complex areas can take longer.
As a guide, light foot traffic is usually fine after 24 hours, with cars generally allowed after a few days depending on conditions. We will advise specific timings for your driveway.
In some cases we can resurface over existing tarmac if the base is sound and levels allow. In other cases a full dig out and new base are the only sensible option. We will advise after inspecting the driveway.
Where levels change or additional area is being surfaced, extra channels, soakaways or gullies may be required. We will assess this on site and include any drainage requirements in your quotation.
Yes, many tarmac driveways benefit from block paved edges or features to define the driveway, frame paths or highlight steps and entrances.
